Parallel Planning

When Proceedings are issued, the Local Authority can sometimes have several plans for the children at once. For example, the Local Authority may wish to do some assessments of the parents, if those assessments are positive, then the plan can be that the children are returned. However, the Local Authority may “parallel plan” so that if the assessments are negative, they have a ‘back-up’ plan already in place. This means that the Local Authority may be assessing long term foster carers, family members, or adopters whilst also assessing parents.
