Interim Care Order (ICO)

An ICO is a Court Order applied for by the Local Authority to ask the Court for the power to share Parental Responsibility with the parents of children they believe to be at risk. It usually (but not always) also involves the removal of the children from the care of whomever they normally live with. An ICO is commonly used in Care Proceedings and as a short term order, initially lasting 56 days (8 weeks). After that period, the Court can renew this order every 4 weeks.
