Family Assistance Order (FAO)

A Court Order which is made in respect of families experiencing difficulties following separation or divorce, often around Contact. A FAO means that a CAFCASS officer, or a Local Authority Social Worker will be required to assist, advise and befriend whomever is named on the Order. An example of this could be parents following an acrimonious split who are unable to facilitate contact for their children with the non-resident parent, causing these children upset and harm.
